Your skin is an organ, therefore anything going on inside your body will have an affect on your skin.” Yes…I know you know that. We are nourishing you from the outside in!

The Lymph System and Dry Body Brushing

About your lymph system: Lymph vessels branch out through your entire body (similarly to blood vessels) carrying lymph, a colorless liquid that carries nutrients to the cells and waste products back to the bloodstream. As it moves through your body, lymph drains into the lymph nodes, which collect the fluids and destroy bacteria and viruses. Unlike, the circulatory system, your lymph system does not have a heart to pump it around your body. For it to best perform it’s main functions (removal of excess fluids from body tissues, production of immune cells to fight infection, and absorption/transportation of fatty acids) many health care professional recommend DRY SKIN BODY BRUSHING daily as a form of lymphatic drainage.

It is best to dry brush twice a day, but any amount that you do will be beneficial. Do not body brush wet skin! This pulls on the surface and defeats the purpose…

Some toted benefits of body brushing:

◊ Cleans Lymphatic System
◊ Strengthens the immune system
◊ Stimulates circulation and glands
◊ Removes dead skin layers
◊ Improves digestion
◊ Prevents bloating/water retention
◊ Lightens the load for the organs of elimination
◊ Increases cellular exchange and rejuvenation
◊ Helps to prevent cellulite
◊ Keeps skin tight during weight reduction

1. Start with the soles of your right foot. Brush vigorously and follow to the top of your foot with lighter strokes.

2. Use long, gentle strokes on the inside of your leg towards the lymph nodes at your groin.

3. Move up the sides of your leg and then massage the thighs and buttocks with firmer circular strokes.

4. Proceed to the left leg in the same manner.

5. Brush your abdomen in gentle clockwise circles. This is the direction your digestive system follows.

6. Use light pressure on your chest/breasts moving towards the nipples and from the nick to the armpits.

7. Brush from your fingertips to the wrist on both the palm and the top of your right hand. Follow with more generous strokes up the inside of the arms and then the outside of the arm.

8. Repeat on the left arm.

9. Stretch your body and reach around to brush your back—there are plenty of lymph nodes all along your spine…this feels soooo good, by the way.

10. Put your brush down and gently press the pressure points on your face and lightly (and I mean lightly!) stroke from your cheeks to your hairline and then down your neck, ending with a light massage on your lymph nodes. Breathe.

Follow your brushing with some gentle stretching, including hip and rib rotations and thoracic breathing.

The entire process should take about 5 minutes and feel great. Now, go on with your day, do some yoga, give yourself (or have someone give you) and oil massage, exercise, take a shower…etc. You will feel great all day. Or…spend some luxury time alone in meditation or with a book and sleep soundly.

Enjoy the time that you spend dry skin body brushing; make it an important part of your lifestyle and daily routine. The results are so amazing that you will wonder why it took you so long to start.
